私の嗜好だけでなく音楽業界に携わる人たちの意見も聞いてアーティストをピックアップし、インタビュー形式で紹介していこうと考えています。
今回はTREKKIE TRAXやSUSHI RECORDS、Hospital Recordsの姉妹レーベルであるMed Schoolからもリリース歴があり、ドラムンベースはじめクールなテクノやテックハウスを推し進める福岡を拠点に活動するDJ/トラックメイカー、Oshirijimaをピックアップしました！
Fukuoka, Japan-based producer and DJ-artist Oshirijima creates a forward-thinking, uncompromising and interesting combination of Drum’n’Bass, Techno and Tech House. He has released tracks on TREKKIE TRAX, SUSHI RECORDS, and the Hospital Records’ sister label, Med School. This Japanese producer has his eyes set on global fame by establishing his own imprint Living. Today we’re stoked to be bringing you his interview where he talks about Drum’n’Bass and Techno, writing music for Med School’s New blood 016 and more.

Q1. まず簡単な自己紹介を伺ってもよろしいでしょうか。ダンスミュージックとの出会いやどうして音楽のプロデュースを始めようと思ったのか、そのきっかけとなる出来事もありましたら教えてください。
Could you introduce a little bit of yourself? How did you ultimately end up in dance music? How did you fall down the music rabbit hole?
初めましてOshirijimaです。福岡でTechno, Juke, Drum’n’Bassのトラックメイク、DJをしています。
ダンスミュージックとの出会いは遡ること十数年前(2005年くらい）です。DMCを目指すお宅バトルDJとして部屋にこもってひたすら練習に明け暮れていました。HIP HOP主体だったDJバトルシーンが少しずつ多ジャンル化の波を迎えていた時代でした。僕自身当時はまだHIP HOPばかり聴いていたのですが、DJ HI-CさんやDJ YASAさんのDrum’n’Bassを使ったルーティーンの影響でDrum’n’Bassを少しずつ聴き始めました。Drum’n’Bassを聴く流れで
当時はまだ割とジャンルとしては新しかったGrime, Dubstepも聴いていました。UK産ベースミュージックリスナーだったにもかかわらず、クラブには一度も行ったことは無かったです。ベースが聴こえないスカスカのイヤホンでSkreamやRuskoの1stを聴いて”よくわからないけどこれは最先端の音楽だ”と一人で楽しんでいました。そういった話題を共有できる友人もいなかったので少しずつDJやクラブミュージックから離れていってたんですがSkrillexの登場で全てが一変しました。Youtubeにある”Skrillex – Rock n Roll (Will Take You to the Mountain)”のMVは僕に夢と希望を与えました。結局その衝撃から2年くらいは何もせずただ聴いてるだけでしたがその後MacBookを買ったタイミングで同時に曲作りを始めました。2014年の春でした。
Hi, I’m Oshirijima! Fukuoka, Japan-based track maker. My DJ mainly consist of Techno, Juke and Drum’n’Bass. It was long process to come to this point. Ｗhenever I had free time I stayed in my room all day and practiced DJing for The DMC World DJ Championships. A new age dawned around ’05 when the DJ battle scene turned to introduction of multi-genre not only HIP HOP. I’ve been listening to HIP HOP, but I started really getting more interested in Drum’n’Bass due to the influence of DJ HI-C, DJ YASA who uses Drum’n’Bass routine. After I listened to Grime, Dubstep which is a relatively new musical genre. Even though I was listening to UK bass music, I’ve never been to clubs. I listened to Skream, Rusko on my low quality earphones and thought “I’m not sure but this is the latest music!” So I enjoyed it myself because I didin’t have friends to share such music. I took a break from the DJ and club music scene, but Skrillex has totally changed my life! “Rock n Roll (Will Take You to the Mountain)”‘s music video gave me dream and wish. Since then I’ve been just listening without do anything for about two years. In the spring of 2014, my career just stared with I bought a MacBook and started producing.
Q2. 普段どのような生活を送っていますか？また普段どういった音楽を聴いていますか？
What does your ordinary day look like? What kind of music do you like?
家にいるときは基本、曲を作るかYoutubeを見るか寝るかしかしてません。制作がいい感じの時はDAWを再生させたまま自室の床で寝ます。
最近はずっとTechnoを聴いています、ビッグルームなものからベッドルームなものまで規模感やスタイル問わず色々なTechnoに触れるようにしています。
邦楽だとサカナクションとPerfumeが大好きです。どちらもツアーで福岡に来る時は必ず観に行ってます。
I usually make music or watch videos on YouTube or sleep. I sleep on the floor with my laptop when music production is going good. I’ve been listening to various Techno lately regardless scales and styles from Bigrom to Bedroom Techno. I love Sakanaction and Perfume (Japanese artist) I always go to there show whenever they visit Fukuoka on tour.
Q3. TREKKIE TRAXやSUSHI RECORDSから曲やリミックスを出されていますが、どうやって一緒に仕事をするようになったのですか？
You’ve released tracks and remixes from TREKKIE TRAX, SUSHI RECORDS. How did you get involved with them?
TREKKIE TRAXとは僕が３年くらい前にJUKEを作ったりそこから派生した160BPMのGarage/Basslineを推し進めていた時期に認知されて少しずつ関わらせていただけるようになった、、と記憶しています。Blacklolita,Ryuki Miyamotoと僕のユニットLΛNCHRでも色々とやらせてもらいました。
SUSHI RECORDSはボスのJAXX DA FISHWORKSさんが福岡によく来られるようになってから色々とお世話になっております。元をたどれば数年前にasiaで開催されたSUSHI RECORDS主催のパーティーでサブフロアがBOUNCEUPというパーティーをやっていて、そこで僕がDJさせていただいた時にほんの少しだけ挨拶させていただいたのが初めましてでした。まさか今現在のように関わらせていただけるとは思っていませんでした。
When I was making Juke and 160 bpm Garage/Bassline derived from them 3 years ago, I became recognized by TREKKIE TRAX and My production group LΛNCHR, consisting of Oshirijima, Blacklolita and Ryuki Miyamoto. So I talked to JAXX DA FISHWORKS the founder of SUSHI RECORDS when he came to Fukuoka. Looking back a few years ago, SUSHI RECORDS hosted the event called BOUNCEUP which I played as DJ. This was the first encounter. I never expected it to be big nowdays.
Q4. 2016年に「Med School」からリリースされたコンピレーションアルバム『New blood 016』にご自身の”Peace”が収録され話題となりましたが、どういった経緯で参加することが決まったのでしょうか？
Your track “Peace” was selected to be part of the Med School’s New blood 016 compilation album and got huge responses. How did that come about?
MedSchoolのSoundCloudにダメ元でDEMOを送ったら、数ヶ月後の忘れた頃に”返信遅くなってごめん、DEMOいい感じだったのであと２曲くらい送って”という返信が来ました。後から送った2曲のうちの１曲が”Peace”でした。実は”New blood 016”に収録された”Peace”はサンプリングの権利関係をクリアするために一から作り直した”Peace”です。極力元ネタがわからないように作った初期”Peace”を自分自身で完全オリジナルに再構築する作業は骨が折れましたし、作り直した音源が改めて採用されるかどうかも不安でした。Hospitalのボス、London ElektricityことTony Colmanが曲の仕上げの最終段階で直々にメールでアドバイスをくれたりと夢のような展開が数ヶ月間の間に巻き起こりました。
I have nothing to lose by submitting my song to Med School’s SoundCloud and I got a response from Med School when I least expect it. “Sorry it took me so long to reply. Could you send me two more songs?” So I sent them two demos, one of those was “Peace”. To be honest, I remade “Peace” included in New blood 016 from scratch to clear the relations of right to the sampling. It was quite an effort to rebuild “Peace” from the ground up to be completely original and I was very worried about whether the remake version would be accepted or not. When I enterd the final phase of production, London Elektricity aka Tony Colman, who is the head of Hospital Records gave me some good advise by email directly. It was a memorable moment for me.
Q5. “Peace”などドラムンベースやジャングルといったジャンル中心の曲を作られていますが、音楽面で影響を受けたアーティストはいますか？またお気に入りの曲などがありましたら教えてください。
Your productions including “Peace” mainly focus on Drum’n’Bass, Jungle. Who are some of the most influential people in your musical process? What’s your personal favorite production?
High Contrast,Rockwell,Dubphizix,BOPがそれぞれのスタイルでの僕のスターです。
特にBOPはUntitled Patternというシリーズで絶えず革新的なサウンドを連発していて、とてつもなくリスペクトしています。DNBの未来を彼はやり尽くそうとしているのか？と思ってしまうほど、どれも先進的で他と明らかにベクトルが違っています。そういう姿勢や立ち回り方も含めて大好きです。
High Contrast, Rockwell, Dubphizix and BOP are the biggest influence of my music. I love and respect what BOP is doing with Drum’n’Bass. He brings a innovative sound through the series of Untitled Pattern. He’s pushing Drum’n’Bass music in a new and unexpected direction. He is next level!
Q6. SoundCloudにもアップされているミックス『mixtape』や最新曲”Nylon”では今までとは違ったテクノやテックハウスに挑戦されていますが、テクノ路線の曲を作ろうと思ったのはどうしてですか？
Your mix series on SoundCloud mixtape and the latest track “Nylon” has elements of Techno, Tech House, you changed the style. Why do you try to make Techno style tracks?
1年くらい前から友人が参加しているTechnoのパーティーでDJさせてもれえるようになりました。そのあたりから”踊れる”という部分に重きを置いた曲作りにシフトしていきました。もともとキラキラしたシンセや派手なベースを用いた曲作りは苦手で、グルーヴやリズムにばかり注力することが多く、僕がTechnoを作り始めるのは単にきっかけ待ちだったようにも思えます。
My promoter friend let me play at a Techno party about a year ago and it was the turning point to shift to make tracks which attach importance to danceable sound. Now I focus more on the groove and rhythm because I don’t want to use glittery, sparkley synths and loud basses. All I need for starting to make Techno tracks was the only opportunity.
Q7. Oshirijimaさんは、ご自身のレーベル「Living」を運営されていますが、レーベルを立ち上げた理由は何ですか？
Why did you establish own record label Living?
インターネット上では派手なサウンドが”ヤバい”という表現で評価、シェアされがちなのに対し、Livingがテーマとしている”夜”を想起させる”しっとり””暗い”といったニュアンスのものはいい曲でもなかなか表に出て来ない印象でした。
TREKKIE TRAXからのリリースやLΛNCHRでの活動で派手なサウンドが好きなリスナーへの認知が少なからずあるであろう僕が、相反する音楽性のレーベルを立ち上げるとどうなるのか？こっちの音楽に目を向けてもらう機会になるのか？というのがLiving立ち上げのきっかけです。
While a flashy sound is highly evaluated on the Internet. However Living is hard to be accepted because it consists mellow and dark sound that images the night. It is beacause I’m renowned around people who like a flashy sound for releasing via TREKKIE TRAX and playing an active part as LΛNCHR, It is a great chance to be interested in complete opposite music from Living. This is one of the reasons for starting own label.
Q8. Oshirijimaさんの2019年の目標、またレーベル「Living」をどのように展開していこうと考えていますか
What are your plans for the next year? What have you got coming up on Living in 2019?
2019年はTechno、Tech HouseのOshirijimaとして国内での知名度を上げていけるように頑張りつつ、そこで得たものをDNB, Jukeにフィードバックさせた何か新しい音をお届けできればと思います。Livingはコラボ制作によるリリースやスプリットEPのリリースをやっていこうと思っています。
I’ll work hard for considering Oshirijima as a Techno, Tech House producer and give feedback to Drum’n’Bass, Juke to explore new sounds in the future. One of the main things for Living is just putting out some collaborations and EPs.
