Andy Samin(アンディ)とJelle Keizer(イェレ)からなるオランダ出身のデュオ、Mightyfoolsが解散を発表しました。
Mightyfoolsといえば、過去にageHaの14周年記念で来日したことがありますし、Yellow Clawのレーベル「Barong Family」のメンバーとして活躍していることもあって、日本でも人気が高いアーティストかと思います、
今回短い記事ではありますが、彼らがSNSで発表した解散に関する発表を取り上げさせて頂きます。
2018年4月20日(金)、MightyfoolsはSNSに下のような投稿をしました。
Dear friends & family all across the world,
Back in 2007 when we first met, DJ’ing in an empty club, inspired by each other’s unique sounds, we joined forces and finished 3 tracks in the first week that we knew each other.
DJ support was huge and we knew we had something. Two years down the road, we were living our dreams. Touring in the USA, Australia, all over Europe and never looked back at that point.
We are grateful for all your support in the past 11 years. It’s a long time, some of you have been with us since day one.
We’ve reached far more than we could ever dream of, headlining the biggest stages around the world, playing insane festivals like Tomorrowland, Creamfields, Ultra, Mysteryland and many more.
You’ve made it possible for us to visit your amazing countries like The Netherlands, England, Scotland, Germany, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Croatia, Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Albania, Russia, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, India, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, USA, Mexico, Chile and many more.But it’s time to say goodbye. It was a tough decision but we feel like we’re at the top and that our work is done. Also leading this kind of lifestyle can take a toll on you.
Dealing with the pressure has contributed to Andy struggling with depression. We are happy to announce that he made great steps towards recovery.
We feel the need to be open about this, as many others suffer from mental problems but have nobody to talk to.Starting the era of Mightyfools at the ages of 17 and 20 years young, our musical taste and direction progressively drifted, and has reached an all time high where we want to give each other the opportunity to continue to develop ourselves as individuals, create, and tackle new challenges in life, and the most important aspect of our mutual decision is to continue supporting each other as best friends. Jelle will continue following his passion, DJing and producing, as a solo act. More on this soon.
If you notice somebody near you is having struggles with depression, or if you have problems yourself, the best solution is to talk about it, don’t hide it. Nobody will judge you, real friends are always there to help you out.
We decided to release music and party together one last summer, until August 2018. One more time to see all of you.

どうして解散することを決めたのか、以下のように話しています。
世界中の友人/ファン、そして家族たちへ
当時2007年、私達がはじめて出会ったのは人も少ないクラブで、お互いDJしていたときにそれぞれのユニークなサウンドに惹かれたのがきっかけだったんだ。そのとき初めて出会って1週間以内には2人で曲を3つ作り上げた。
デュオを結成してからは後ろを振り向かず2年間ひたすら活動に打ち込んできたけど、その結果色んなDJたちにサポートしてもらい、アメリカやオーストラリア、その他ヨーロッパ各国でもツアーを行ったりと、まさに夢の中で生きている心地だった。
この11年間、サポートしてくれたファンのみんなには心から感謝している。さらにTomorrowlandやCreamfields, Ultra Music Festival, Mysterylandなど世界中のフェスにも出演することができて、自分たちが夢見ていたこと以上のことに達することもできた。
それにみんなのサポートのおかげで、オランダやイギリス、スコットランド、ドイツ、ベルギー、フランス、スイス、イタリア、スペイン、プルとがる、クロアチア、オーストリア、チェコ共和国、ポーランド。ハンガリー、スロバキア、アルバニア、ロシア、カザフスタン、チトアニア、インド、ミャンマー、タイ、マレーシア、インドネシア、韓国、日本、台湾、オーストラリア、ニュージーランド、カナダ、アメリカ、メキシコ、チリなどなど色んな国で訪れることもできた。
でもみんなにお別れを言わないといけない。とても厳しい決断だったけど、満足いくところに達したし、自分たちのできることは全てやり遂げたと感じている。
実は見えないところでは常にプレッシャーと闘っていて、Andyがうつ病を発症したこともあった。今はかなり回復して良い方向に向かっているんだけど、他にも色んな精神的な問題と闘っていることを伝えておかないといけない。
またそれぞれ17歳のとき、20歳のときからMightyfoolsをスタートして、音楽のテイストや方向性が徐々に変わっていくなかでも常に高みを目指すためにそれぞれ創造性や自分自身を成長させるための時間を設けて、新しいチャレンジにも挑戦してきた。それらを含めた上で2人が下した共通の決断は、今後も親友としてお互いをサポートしていくこと。
だからJelleは今後も音楽への情熱を追い求めるために、ソロとしてDJやプロデュースを行っていくよ。
もし自分のそばにうつと闘っている人、なにか困っている人がいたら、一番の解決策はしっかり話を聞いてあげること。本当の友人というのはいつもそばにいてあなたを助けてくれるから。
私たちはMightyfoolsとして最後に、今年8月までの間に新曲のリリースといくつかショーを行うことを決めたから、そこでまたみんなと会えるのを楽しみにしているよ。
今までサポートしてくれたみんなには心の底から感謝しているし、絶対に忘れない。本当にありがとう。

世界で活躍しているDJ/プロデューサーについて、私たちは華やかな一面しか見ていませんが、Aviciiもそうでしたが裏では想像を絶するような苦労や困難と闘っているのが分かります。
MightyfoolsはYellow Clawとコラボした“No Class”やCesqeauxとコラボした“Murder”など多くの名曲を生み出してくれました。
半年前に出したAfrojackとのコラボ曲“Keep It Low”も大きな話題となり、つい1ヶ月前もQuintinoとコラボした“G THING”は多くのトップDJたちにサポートされるなど、今後も更なる人気を獲得していきそうだと感じていましたが、そのような事情があったとは全く知りもしませんでした。
最後にリリースされる新曲も楽しみですし、彼らが解散したとしても彼らの作り出した曲は今後も色んなDJたちによってかけられ生き続けることでしょう。
解散前に日本でプレイしてくれたのは本当に貴重ですし、色んな困難を抱えながらも今まで活動してきてくれて一ファンとして本当に有難いです。
